The Writing Center offers a variety of events and special programs. These events are designed to support writers across the university and in our community.
Writing can be a solitary art. Whether you are a Writing major or are simply deeply interested in writing, you can find an informal community of Pitt writers at the Writers' Café. Make contacts with other writers, try your hand at different genres, let guided freewriting exercises jumpstart your process, and share feedback on works-in-progress with peers from all over campus.
Pitt’s Writing Program offers a variety of creative writing courses each term, as well as the Public and Professional Writing (PPW) program for those pursuing careers in nonprofit, corporate, or government writing, with opportunities for internships. Additional resources include the Associated Writing Programs for professional contacts, the Electronic Poetry Center for digital and experimental poetry, and non-credit writing classes for adult learners over 50 through the College of General Studies.
A variety of local and university-affiliated organizations that foster literary engagement in Pittsburgh. From poetry workshops and student-run publications to acclaimed author readings and regional journalism, these partnerships connect writers, readers, and the broader community through events, publications, and collaborative opportunities. Together, they showcase the city’s vibrant and diverse literary culture.
